WOODVILLE SHOW DERBYSHIRE

Our village was named Woodville in 1845.  Prior to this it was called 'Wooden Box' so named because the village was on  a Turnpike road and tolls were collected at the Tollgate island where a port wine vat was cut in half and housed the man who collected the tolls. Hence 'Wooden Box'.
